3. Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a testing process.
4. An eligibility list will be established based on successful completion of each testing component.

A list of qualified candidates will be maintained for a minimum of one year or until exhausted or determined to be invalid by the respective department Fire Chief. Each Department has the option of selecting or rejecting a candidate based on department specific requirements. Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of all portions of the exam procedures, background and physical examinations which include a drug/alcohol test.

Testing is scheduled to occur during the week of July 17 - 21, 2017. Qualified individuals will be invited to participate in the week long testing. Please note: you must be available during the entire week of testing. The week long testing will include a written examination (scheduled for July 17, 2017). If you pass the written, you will be invited to participate in the physical ability exam (scheduled for July 18, 2017). If you pass the physical, you will be invited to participate in the oral examination and the assessment (scheduled for July 19 - 21, 2017). Qualified applicants will be notified through the recruitment process of exam locations and exam times. Applicant's chosen to participate in the Fire Chief's interview will be notified of the date, time and location on a later date.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:


Age:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old at time of application.

Background:

Applicants must be willing to complete a background packet and sign an authorization for the background investigation and submit references prior to test date.

Employment Eligibility:

Applicants must have identification necessary to establish eligibility to work in the United States.

Education:

Applicants must have a high school deploma or G.E.D.
Applicants must be able to read and follow instructions written in English, and be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, both in English.

Licenses:

Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable DMV record, and possess or have the ability to obtain a California or Nevada Driver's license with a B-F endorsement in accordance with the hiring agency. Applicants must be currently certified as a full-time paramedic either in the State of California, State of Nevada, or have the ability to obtain licensure in either of these States. Applicants must be certified National Registry NREMT-P at time of appointment. Those agencies that are hiring Firefighters will require EMT Intermediate or Advanced EMT level of certification. Agencies allowing their Seasonal Firefighters to apply will require AEMT certification. Additionally, applicants must possess valid CPR Health Care Provider certification, ACLS, PALS, ITLS, and/or PEPP certification. Please refer to specific agencies required certifications and/or licensures on the home page of this website. All certifications and/or licensures MUST be attached to your application at time of submittal.

Medical:

All agencies require applicants to pass a drug/alcohol screen for use of illegal substances. Certain agencies also require applicants to complete a psychiatric / psycological test. Contact the specific fire district for details.

Residency:

Each department has its own residency / response time requirement. Contact the specific fire district for details.

The Written Exam:

A National Fire Service Test written exam will be taken by all qualified applicants.

Paramedic Exam:

A Paramedic written exam based on the National Registry Paramedic will be taken by all applicants.

Physical Agility:

Those applicants that successfully pass both written exams will participate in the physical agility test. If an applicant fails the physical agility test, he/she will not be allowed to continue with any further testing. Applicants may bring their own structure helmet, structure coat with liner and structure gloves to wear.

Paramedic Skills Test:

Applicants that pass the physical agility test will be tested on their paramedic skills.

Oral Board Interview:

Firefighter candidates participate in an Oral Board panel interview with representatives from each of the Departments. The panel will consist of a minimum of 3 interviewers and a maximum of 5. Questions will be structured as Experienced-Based (Tell me about a time you...) Situational (How would you...or, What would you do if...) and Practical (Hands on Situations). Interviews will last approximately one hour and candidates are asked to dress in a manner appropriate for a job interview.
